New build basement/below ground structures

Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) is a system of formwork concrete that stays in place as permanent building insulation for energy efficient, cast-in-place, reinforced concrete walls, floors, and roofs.

The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The forms lock together, somewhat like Lego bricks, and serve to create a form for the structural walls or floors
of a building.

ICFs are currently manufactured from any the following materials:

• Polystyrene foam (expanded or extruded - most common)
• Polyurethane foam

Reinforced concrete blocks/shuttered concrete

More traditional basement/below ground structures are likely to be constructed from the above components and there are numerous products available for the structural waterproofing aspect.

Having been witness to numerous faulty installations, during a period in excess of 20 years, we are well aware that the conditions required to complete a faultless installation rarely exist and BS8102 acknowledges this.

Utilising our experience, and by working in close association with the client’s design team comprising structural engineers, architects, main contractors and the like, we specify, supply and install what we consider to be the most appropriate products for the job in hand.

With the inclusion of a basement space having no impact on planning restrictions we are seeing more structures of this type evolve and this brings with it, in structural waterproofing terms, complications in providing compliance with the standard codes of practice.

Remcure Ltd have experience in working with this type of structure and are pleased to confirm that we can proffer guaranteed systems that are installed, in phases, during the construction of the structures utilising Type A and/or Type C systems (Type A systems are commonly known as 'tanking').
